European alternatives to Let's Encrypt

Let's Encrypt is a non-profit certificate authority run by the US-based Internet Security Research Group (ISRG). It is the world's largest Certificate Authority and has developed the ACME protocol for issuing certificates.

This pages lists European Let's Encrypt alternatives from companies based in a member state of the European Union (EU) or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

Buypass Go SSL is an SSL certificate provider from Norway. They support the ACME protocol and have their own root certificate. The issued certificates are valid for 180 days. This is twice as long as the 90 days for Let's Encrypt and ZeroSSL. The ACME API URL is https://api.buypass.com/acme/directory and they don't require additional authentication, like an API key.

Austria EU Free plan

ZeroSSL is a provider of ACME SSL certificates from Austria. ZeroSSL supports the ACME protocol and uses the root certificate from Sectigo. The issued certificates are valid for 90 days, like with Let's Encrypt. The ACME API URL is https://acme.zerossl.com/v2/DV90 and requires additional authentication via an API key, which can be retrieved after creating a user account.
